Welcome to this week’s edition of the Homeschool Mother’s Journal. This week we are featuring Donna from Hey Donna.
In my life this week…
This week has been full of party planning. I planned a spa-themed birthday party for a dear friend of mine and we enjoyed the celebration this Sunday. Today is actually our son’s 4th birthday, so we’ll be having another party tonight (small family get-together). Our daughter celebrates her 6th birthday at the end of the month and I’m planning a huge birthday bash (I’m a party planning addict!). I’ll be sharing all of these fun parties on my site soon!
In our homeschool this week…
We finally stared our FIRST homeschool year!! We are officially in week 2! This week we’ve been more laid back and relaxed. We are studying the moon this week and our daughter continues to impress me with her ability to really understand and remember the facts. She just loves talking about the “waxing gibbous moon”… Honestly I didn’t even know it was called a waxing moon… I’ve got a lot to learn!
I am inspired by…
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This week we spent a morning at the park, we’re calling this “Gym” for the week. In two weeks we start going to our first Co-op which, to be honest makes me a bit nervous but I know the kids will LOVE it!
My favorite thing this week was…
Watching Caleb our 4 year old (Happy Birthday Buddy!!) work on his writing with Handwriting Without Tears. He loves it and is doing really well!
What’s working/not working for us…
Chronic pain is NOT working for me! After months of tests the Dr.’s still don’t know what’s going on so I’m headed to a rheumatologist to hopefully get some answers. I’ve been eating Gluten Free for 2 weeks and it really seems to be helping with the pain, so I’ll be sticking with it!
Questions/thoughts I have…
Things I’m working on…
Sticking to my daily schedule. I work from home and try to finish school by 11am or 1pm at the latest. The schedule has worked pretty well so far but I still need my Tuesday evenings out of the house to work on some more detailed technical projects for clients. It’s a very tricky balancing act!
I’m reading…
one of the most challenging books I’ve ever read – talk about conviction!!
I’m cooking…
Well tomorrow I’ll be creating a Cars birthday cake for my son. Lately my cooking has been pretty lame I really need to work on my weekly meal plans again or we’ll be eating cereal way too much!
I’m grateful for…
the fact that I can still eat. Can you sense a theme here? But seriously, I am grateful to be involved with the youth girls at our church, a husband that continues to age like a fine wine {wink}, children that are excited about learning, and a dog that is a bit overboard in her devotion to me.
I’m praying for…
my children’s hearts to follow after Jesus and for the Engineer (my husband) who is juggling family life, a full time job, and a doctorate program.

This is only our 2nd year to Homeschool and our co-op has been my saving grace. We LOVE everything about it!!! I, too, continue to be amazed and inspired by other homeschool moms and I love learning right along with my kids. There is so much that I had forgotten. I have put Unglued on my “to read” list and I am looking forward to buying and reading it. Hope the party went well. And that you feel better. That the doctors find out how to help you. Blessings and Joy to you!!
