Welcome to this week’s edition of the Homeschool Mother’s Journal. This week we are featuring Amy Stults from Milk and Cookies.
In my life this week…
Lots of activities – we finally found another chess coach that we love and are meeting with him once a week. Piano is going amazing and my son might participate in his first “concert” this month. Our summer Lego Club begins next week. My son’s next Tae Kwon Do test involves a 30 second creative form that he needs to make up himself.
In our homeschool this week…
I started making a “summer plan” this week. We homeschool year-around but my friend Christine really inspired me with her ideas. Maybe she’ll be our guest next week and she can share them. I really want to focus this summer on fun things that we often overlook during the year, like geography, art and music.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
Netflix! That is my tip of the week. Loaded with resources.
I am inspired by…
I already mentioned Christine above. I am also inspired by my friend Shelly Ballestero, whose dear sweet 11 year old son, Angelo was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer and lost one of his legs to amputation. Through all this, Shelly has amazed me with her strength and faith and trust in the Lord. Please visit the family’s fundraising page to learn more about Angelo.
My favorite thing this week was…
This may sound very school-girlish but my favorite moments this week were when my husband came home from work early twice. The sound of the garage door going up still gives me butterflies!
What’s working/not working for us…
Grammar. I really hate to mention the curriculum we are currently on, but it is really poorly written. I chose this particular book because my son enjoys diagramming and this one was recommended for that.
Questions/thoughts I have…
Is anyone out there, besides me, sad that summer is almost here? I miss winter and fall!
Things I’m working on…
My never-ending family tree
Genealogy is thrilling. I feel like a detective.
I’m reading…
Hey, America, Your Roots Are Showing by Megan Smolenyak, Trace Your Roots with DNA: Use Your DNA to Complete Your Family Tree, also by Megan Smolenyak, The Hobbit, and The Hunger Games 2.
I’m cooking…
I made these Baked Chicken and Spinach Flautas last night and they were delicious!
I’m grateful for…
My husband. His hugs, his job, his work ethic, his faith in me, his love for his child. He is just awesome.
I’m praying for…
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
You all (y’all) probably know Marsha. This is her little boy Ian. I just want to reach through the screen and grab him. Those cheeks! That grin!

Lego is fun!!!
all the best to your son on his Tae Kwon Do test
Genealogy is really interesting isnt it we found a dear distant cousin through our research
He is such a cutie!!! Legos do sound fun. My kiddo is really starting to get into them. That’s about all he has asked for for his birthday
We love Netflix for our home school too. So many great educational resources available all of the time.
First of all – no you’re not the only one who is sad summer is almost here. We’ve had summer temps this week and while my migraines have been better with the heat and humidity that went out the door. The only good thing about summer is my son’s and I’s birthday LOL As for grammar – check out Writing Tales – it’s a Classical style language arts/writing program we are now in Level 2, there are games, writing, grammar lessons, etc all rolled into one
Amy, my cold weather friend! I am ecstatic that summer is here
