Homeschool Mother’s Journal: June 29, 2012

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Homeschool Mother’s Journal. This week we are featuring Mary from Homegrown Learners.

In my life this week…

We have been spending time swimming, reading, and with friends.    There are a lot of tough health and personal situations that are affecting good friends and I’m happy to be able to help with babysitting, a listening ear, or whatever they may need.   I’ve put some planning and projects on hold to be in the here and now.   It’s also HOT here, so I’m trying to be anywhere it is cool and air conditioned!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We were lucky to spend time with good friends last weekend and also make a visit to the GA Aquarium.   Couple that with the normal back and forth of swimming lessons during the week and this mom is worn out!

My favorite thing this week was…

Eating lunch with the whale sharks!   Thanks to a company my husband does business with we were treated to lunch in the ballroom at the GA Aquarium and a full day of touring the aquarium.   The new dolphin show was amazing!

Questions/thoughts I have…

When did my children start growing so quickly?   After watching some home videos this week it hit me like a ton of bricks how big they are getting and how I need to cherish each moment with them.

Things I’m working on…

Being healthy and losing weight.  Our whole family is getting fit and eating better and it feels SO GOOD.  I’ve lost almost 10 pounds so far and have another 30 to go.   I told myself I was going to make this my focus this summer.  Sometimes I feel guilty that we aren’t doing more “school”, but then I remind myself that learning to be healthy is the best gift I can give my children.

I’m reading…

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

I love this magical picture.  There’s something about watching scuba divers in the tank with the whale sharks at the aquarium while you eat lunch.   Sometimes the opportunities in life just amaze me.

Awesome shot! We want to visit the GA aquarium soon. Maybe it can be a little vacation trip for us ;) Thanks for hosting and sharing!

Don’t go to the aquarium in the summer on a weekend! It’s packed. We went once in December on a Friday afternoon and we were the only people there. :-)

Have you read the book, Made to Crave http://madetocrave.org/? It changed my approach to eating healthy and living a more active life style.
