Homeschool Mother’s Journal: June 15, 2012

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Homeschool Mother’s Journal. This week we are featuring Amy Roberts from Raising Arrows.

In my life this week…

My Grandpa’s funeral. The only grandpa I’ve ever known passed away this past week. Thankfully, nearly the entire family had just gathered a couple of weeks earlier for a family reunion and we were all able to see him. Amazing how God works!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Things like morning sickness and funerals are a major reason we homeschool year round. It took me several years before I was comfortable with going year round, but we absolutely love it!

I am inspired by…

This man.

My husband is one of those rare finds who is not only my biggest champion here on earth, but also my best friend. And he never fails to tell me like it is.

My favorite thing this week…

A few days reprieve from morning sickness! I’ll take anything I can get!

What’s working/not working for us…

Despite the morning sickness and my Grandpa’s funeral, we did manage to sneak in a few days of homeschooling. However, because I am sick, I’ve noticed I’m not staying on top of my older children who work almost entirely independently. Surprisingly, it is my 11 year old daughter who is staying on task and my 14 year old son (who typically is my responsible one) who is not. Perhaps a little training is in order?

Things I’m working on…

I need to start adding to my Wish List on PaperBackSwap so I can hopefully grab up some free books. I have a lot of credits right now, so I need to strike while the iron is hot and people are getting rid of last year’s homeschooling books!

I’m reading…

Upgrade by Kevin Swanson and the Psalms.

I’m cooking…

Nothing. My kids are doing a lot of the cooking right now due to the fact the kitchen makes my stomach turn. Praise the Lord for “big kids”!

I’m grateful for…

You guessed it – my big kids! (and my husband, and my mom, and my mother-in-law, and my step-mother-in-law…and every single person out there who has made my morning sickness a little easier to bear)

I’m praying for…

My Grandma. After 60 years of marriage, it won’t be easy not having Grandpa in the house. We are already talking of ways we can bless Grandma as she grieves.

Baby #8

Baby #8! After 2 back to back miscarriages this winter and sonogram after sonogram of heartache, this photo is worth all the morning sickness in the world.

Dear Amy, I am sorry for the loss of your Grandpa.
Congratulations on your new wee one.

I linked the picture and link separately, but didn’t see the grab code to link it all together and am not techie enough to figure out how to make that work on my own.
