Homeschool Mother’s Journal: August 17, 2012

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Homeschool Mother’s Journal. This week we are featuring Daniele from Domestic Serenity.

In my life this week…

Still working at setting up our schoolroom and curriculum. We just completed a large house project, so we’re slowly getting back to normal. Lots of printing, laminating and putting things into notebooks — then, we should be ready to go!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Trying to drink up the rest of summer with lots of outdoor play and summertime fun. This week brought a grandparent from out of town to visit for a few days…always lots of fun.

My favorite thing this week was…

Having a few hours of quiet in the library to catch up on emails, read, nod off :) , and also just breathe a little. It’s amazing how something so simple can refresh and renew!

Questions/thoughts I have…

As far as homeschooling, I have 4 learners in the schoolroom this year and one with special needs. Still thinking and praying through how to best organize our daily rhythm and routine. Thankfully, we can adjust as we go along.

Things I’m working on…

A menu plan for the next month! During the school year, I plan breakfast and lunches a month in advance — I’m too eclectic to do that for dinner {I know, it’s odd}. Then, I shop for everything a month at a time. That way, weekly shopping is only quick runs for fresh produce or dinner items if needed.

I’m reading…

My reading focus this week has been:
  • Free Range Learning: How Homeschooling Changes Everything by Laura Grace Weldon
  • Creating Innovators by Tony Wagner
  • The Narrated Bible

I’m praying for…

Oh, several things, but especially for a family member who needs to turn around from unhealthy habits. Praying too for our school year and the rush to get ready and be prepared — for peace and calm in the process, and for me to realize it’s okay if everything doesn’t get perfectly done!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

another great book I’m enjoying!

I just love your gentle ways Daniele. “It’s okay if everything doesn’t get perfectly done.” Amen.

I just love that you plan breakfasts and lunches for a MONTH. That is simply brilliant and I just may have to try that myself. The kids need better breakfast options and lunch can be a stressful time because that is when I am transitioning from homeschooling to my work-at-home time. I can tend to just toss some quick sandwich at them for lunch (don’t ask how often my kids have been haviing PB&J!!! ) .
I’m also enjoying a preservingg book right now, Food In Jars it is lovely! Now I just need to carve out some more time to do the canning!
